Diesel

In October 2004 my husband and I adopted Diesel; aka Finn (shelter name) from your shelter. While searching for dogs online we came across Diesel. His biography described him as a Husky mix. He caught our attention immediately, as this was the type of dog we were looking for. As soon as we saw his picture, there was no doubt about it… we had to meet him right away.
We traveled from Greenwood to Amherst to meet Diesel. Both my husband and I were attached at first sight. We decided then and there we had to have him. So now that we had decided to adopt Diesel, we were sorry to leave him at the shelter, as he was scheduled to be neutered and vaccinated. A week sure seems like a long time when you are really anxious to bring home a new friend.
We waited anxiously for the shelter to call and let us know that he had returned to the shelter and we could come and pick him up. I had made arrangements with my supervisor to have the afternoon off of work to drive to your shelter and pick up Diesel. It sure was a very long three hour drive.
Once I arrived at the shelter I was so happy to see him sitting in his cage looking as beautiful as ever. The car ride home was fun. Diesel made himself at home in the back seat. He was quiet at first, looking out the window and I am sure he was wondering where he was off to this time. I had the radio on and sang along with songs and as Diesel got more comfortable decided it was time to sing as well. I have to admit he is a much better singer than I am…..we stopped at Tim Horton's by the airport for a pee break and a few snacks. I had already begun the process of spoiling him rotten.
His first night in the house was great; he slept like a baby on his new pillow that we had purchased for him. He made a mess or two, but I think he just scented the two dogs we used to have. I think he was just getting used to the new surroundings. It wasn't long before he had everything figured out.
It has been almost two years since we brought Diesel home and he is such an amazing dog. I have to admit he is very vocal….never barks, just does a lot of talking. He definitely has a unique personality. He is really a daddy's boy and follows him around the house all the time. But he is mommy's suck, and knows who to go to when he wants treats.
He certainly has attached himself to us enormously and us to him. When we brought Diesel home from the shelter he was very under weight only about 60lbs (according to the scale at the veterinary clinic). Now is a hefty 90lbs. He is such a beautiful boy and has brought so much joy and happiness to our family. I can't imagine life without him.
He has made us laugh so many times, and over the past while has gotten extremely spoiled rotten. He has a huge collection of toys…….which are gifts from Santa, the Easter Bunny, and of course lots of presents for his birthday. His favorite being a stuffed blue dog with long legs (which are long gone), which he recognizes as his "BABY".
We are truly thankful to your shelter for giving us the opportunity to adopt him.
